Takoyaki Papercraft Dolls

Here's a weird papercraft from Atelier Fare, the Takoyaki papercraft doll, a " takoyaki paper doll for fine weather" as the designer put it. What is it? let's break it down.

Takoyaki or Takoyaki balls refers to octopus dumplings that is a popular snack in Japan. It's comprised of octopus, tempura scraps, green onion, & pickled ginger - covered in batter and then either fried or baked (see vid below).

Now that you know what Takoyaki is, we go to the next one. Why is it shaped like a doll?

That part refers to Teru Teru Bozu (sunny monk), a traditional Japanese handmade paper or cloth doll with a string tied to its neck area and hanged on windows or porches to bring in sunny weather and ward off rain. The word "Teru" is a Japanese word that describes sunshine and "Bozu” is the name of a Buddhist monk.

Now that you know what those words mean I'm pretty sure you've put two and two together, so here you go, six different takoyaki papercrafts with various flavors themes ^_^
